How much does branding cost in Australia? A 2026 price guide in Australian dollars
Australian branding quotes run from a few hundred dollars to fifty thousand and more. Here is what each budget buys in AUD, how GST and trade mark fees work and how to get a strong brand without overpaying.

In 2026 a small business brand identity in Australia typically costs about $2,000 to $8,000 AUD with an experienced freelancer or small studio, $8,000 to $25,000 with an established studio or agency, and $20,000 to $50,000 or more when an agency includes full brand strategy. A logo on its own usually costs $300 to $3,000. The price depends on how much strategy is included, who does the work and what you own at the end.
I am Jakaria Mahmud, a senior brand identity designer working remotely with founders and small teams across Australia, from Sydney and Melbourne to Brisbane and Perth. Below are typical 2026 prices in Australian dollars drawn from published Australian pricing guides, what each level includes, the costs most quotes leave out and how to choose.
Short answer. Budget about $300 to $3,000 AUD for a logo, $2,000 to $8,000 for a small business brand identity with an experienced freelancer or small studio, $8,000 to $25,000 with an established studio or agency and $20,000 to $50,000+ for strategy plus identity from a larger agency. Ask whether the quote includes GST, and add IP Australia trade mark fees of $250 per class.
Branding prices in Australia by provider
These ranges come from 2026 pricing guides published by Australian studios and agencies (sources at the end). The guides overlap and disagree at the edges, so treat them as a map rather than a quote.
| Provider | Typical price (AUD) | What you usually get | Best for |
|---|---|---|---|
| DIY or logo maker | $0 to $500 | A template based logo | Testing an idea |
| Freelance logo | $300 to $3,000 | A custom logo and core files | Sole traders and side projects |
| Experienced freelancer or small studio | $2,000 to $8,000 | Logo suite, colour, type, applications and a guide | Most small businesses and startups |
| Established studio or agency | $8,000 to $25,000 | Strategy, identity system, guidelines and templates | Growing and funded businesses |
| Agency, strategy plus identity | $20,000 to $50,000+ | Research, positioning, naming support and full rollout | Scaleups and complex rebrands |
Agencies in Sydney and Melbourne tend to sit at the upper end of each range. A rush timeline usually adds to the price as well.
How much does a logo cost in Australia?
A custom logo from an Australian freelancer usually costs $300 to $3,000 AUD. Template and AI logo makers cost little or nothing but are rarely unique and are weak to protect as a trade mark. Many studios and agencies do not sell a logo on its own and start with a full identity. Compare every option in how much a logo costs, and see what you lose with a logo only project in logo vs brand identity.
What drives the cost of branding in Australia
- Strategy: positioning, audience and messaging work before design adds time and value.
- Who does the work: a senior designer costs more per hour but usually needs fewer rounds.
- Scope: the number of logo versions, applications, templates and pages in the guidelines.
- Touchpoints: vehicle wraps, signage, uniforms and packaging are common in Australian trades and hospitality and add design time.
- Timeline: rushed projects cost more and often skip discovery.
- Ownership: check that the source files and full rights are included in the price.
What a complete brand identity should include
- A short strategy: who you serve, what you promise and how you sound.
- A logo suite: primary logo, compact version, symbol and app or social icon.
- Colour palette with screen and print values, and a type system.
- Key applications such as website direction, social templates, stationery, signage or packaging.
- Brand guidelines your team and suppliers can follow.
- All source and export files, with full rights. See logo file formats explained.

What to budget by business stage
| Stage | Sensible budget (AUD) | Focus |
|---|---|---|
| Testing an idea | $0 to $1,500 | A clean logo and consistent basics |
| New small business | $2,000 to $8,000 | A complete identity and key applications |
| Growing or funded startup | $8,000 to $25,000 | Strategy, identity system and guidelines |
| Scaleup or rebrand | $15,000 to $50,000+ | Research, rollout and change across many touchpoints |
Do Australian branding prices include GST?
Not always. GST in Australia is 10%, and many studios quote excluding GST, so check every quote before you compare. Invoices from designers based outside Australia usually do not include Australian GST, and how it is treated depends on whether your business is registered for GST. Ask your accountant.
Trade mark costs with IP Australia
Protecting your name and logo is a separate cost from design. IP Australia charges $250 per class for a standard trade mark application using the picklist, or $330 per class through TM Headstart, which gives you a quick assessment before you commit. Registration can take several months, so search early and before you print anything. Use a trade mark attorney if your brand matters to the business.
Costs most quotes leave out
- Commercial font licences, from a few hundred to a few thousand dollars.
- Stock photography, photo shoots and illustration.
- Printing signage, uniforms, vehicles and packaging.
- Website design and build, often quoted separately.
- Extra rounds of changes outside the agreed scope.
Local studio or remote designer?
A local studio is easy to meet in person and knows the city. A remote senior designer can cost less for the same level of craft, and the time difference often means work moves overnight while you sleep. What matters is a clear process, a written scope and quick feedback. The checklist in how to hire a brand identity designer works for both.
How long branding takes in Australia
A logo and starter kit takes about one to two weeks. A full identity with an experienced freelancer or small studio usually takes two to six weeks, and larger agency projects take two to three months or more. See what happens each week in the brand identity design timeline.

The takeaway
Most Australian small businesses get the best value from an experienced freelancer or small studio in the $2,000 to $8,000 AUD range, with strategy, a complete identity, guidelines and full ownership included. Check GST on every quote, budget for trade marks separately and compare proposals on scope, not only price.
