Cover: How much does a logo cost in 2026? Real prices, from logo makers to agencies

Ask ten designers what a logo costs and you will get ten answers, from free to five figures. The range is real, because "a logo" can mean a template you edit in five minutes or a mark built from months of strategy that has to work across products and countries. The useful question is not what a logo costs, but what you get at each price and which level your business actually needs.

I am Jakaria Mahmud, a logo designer and brand identity designer working with startups and small businesses in the USA, UK, the Gulf and Europe. This guide breaks down 2026 logo prices by option, what drives the cost, the extra costs most guides leave out and how to choose.

Short answer. In 2026 a logo typically costs $0 to $200 from an AI generator or logo maker, from about $250 through a design contest, $300 to $2,000 or more from a freelance designer depending on experience, and $3,000 to $10,000 or more from a branding agency. Most small businesses and startups get the best value from an experienced freelancer or small studio that designs a custom logo from their positioning and hands over every file and the full rights.

Logo design cost in 2026 at a glance

OptionTypical priceWhat you getBest for
AI generator or logo maker$0 to $200A template mark, limited files, often not uniqueTesting an idea or a side project
Design contestFrom about $250Many quick concepts, little research or strategySimple needs with a clear brief
Entry level freelancer$300 to $500A custom logo, quality and process vary widelyVery small budgets
Mid level freelancer$500 to $1,500Custom logo, a few concepts, standard filesSmall businesses and early startups
Senior freelancer or small studio$1,500 to $5,000+Positioning, logo system, usage rules, full rightsFunded startups and growing businesses
Branding agency$3,000 to $10,000+Research, strategy, full identity and guidelinesEstablished companies and rebrands

Ranges are based on 2026 market pricing guides and my own experience of the market. Prices in the UK and Europe follow similar tiers in pounds and euros; see branding cost in the UK for local detail.

What drives the price of a logo

  1. Strategy. A logo built on research and positioning takes longer than one designed from a quick form, and it is far more likely to work.
  2. Designer experience. Senior designers charge more because they get to the right answer faster and avoid costly mistakes.
  3. Scope. A single logo costs less than a logo system with a compact mark, app icon, colour and mono versions and usage rules.
  4. Rounds of concepts and revisions. More directions and revision rounds add time.
  5. Usage and rights. Full ownership and source files should be included. Some cheap options keep the rights or charge extra for them.
  6. Complexity. Custom lettering, illustration, animation or bilingual versions, such as Arabic and English, take more work.

What a professional logo package should include

  • A primary logo and a compact mark or monogram
  • An app icon and favicon that work at very small sizes
  • Full colour, one colour, black, white and reversed versions
  • Files in SVG, PDF, PNG and EPS, plus the editable source
  • Basic usage rules: clear space, minimum size and what not to do
  • Written transfer of full ownership and rights

If a quote does not include these, the low price may cost more later. My logo design service includes all of them, and a full brand identity package adds colour, typography and guidelines.

Hidden costs most logo guides skip

  • Trademark registration. In the USA the USPTO base application fee is $350 per class of goods or services, and in the UK GOV.UK lists the cost of registering a trade mark as at least £205. Attorney fees are extra.
  • Redesign later. A cheap logo that does not fit your business often means paying again within a year or two.
  • Applications. Business cards, signage, vehicle wraps, packaging and the website all cost money to produce, and a weak logo makes each of them weaker.
  • Missing files. Paying a second designer to rebuild a logo from a low resolution PNG is common and avoidable.

Logo or full brand identity: which do you need?

A logo is the mark. A brand identity is the system around it: positioning, colour, typography, imagery, tone of voice and guidelines. If you are testing an idea or launching fast, a professional logo with a starter kit is enough. If you are raising money, entering a new market or rebranding, invest in the full identity. 7 questions to ask before you pay for a logo

  1. Will you start from my positioning and audience, or from my preferences?
  2. How many concepts and revision rounds are included?
  3. Which file formats will I receive, including the editable source?
  4. Do I own the logo and all rights when the project ends?
  5. Will you show the logo on real applications, such as the website, app icon and signage?
  6. Do you check for similar existing marks in my industry?
  7. What happens if I need extra versions later, and what does it cost?

Logo buying mistakes to avoid

  • Choosing on price alone. The cheapest logo is expensive if you replace it in a year.
  • Skipping the brief. Without a clear brief, any designer is guessing.
  • Following trends. Trendy effects date fast. Simple marks last.
  • Ignoring small sizes. Most people see your logo as an app icon or social avatar first.
  • Not getting the rights in writing. Make sure ownership transfers to you.

The takeaway

A logo can cost anything from nothing to five figures, but most businesses should expect to invest somewhere between a few hundred and a few thousand dollars for a custom, professional mark. Pay for thinking, not just drawing: a logo built on clear positioning, delivered as a complete system with full rights, is the one that pays for itself.

Frequently asked questions

Typically $0 to $200 from an AI generator or logo maker, from about $250 through a design contest, $300 to $2,000 or more from a freelance designer depending on experience, and $3,000 to $10,000 or more from a branding agency.

Most small businesses get good value at $500 to $1,500 from an experienced freelancer, or $1,500 to $5,000 for a logo with a starter identity from a senior designer or small studio. Jakaria Mahmud's Launch plan is $799 one time including a landing page.

Price depends on the strategy behind the logo, the designer's experience, the scope of the logo system, the number of concepts and revisions, rights and file formats, and any custom lettering, illustration or bilingual versions.

A cheap logo can work for testing an idea, but template logos are often not unique, may not come with full rights and usually need replacing as the business grows, which costs more in the end.

A primary logo, a compact mark, an app icon and favicon, colour, one colour, black, white and reversed versions, in SVG, PDF, PNG and EPS, plus the editable source file and basic usage rules.

Usually not. In the USA the USPTO base application fee is $350 per class, and in the UK GOV.UK lists the cost of registering a trade mark as at least £205, plus any attorney fees.

A professional custom logo usually takes one to three weeks including the brief, concepts and revisions. Jakaria Mahmud delivers a logo and starter kit in about one week.
