How much does branding cost in Canada? A 2027 price guide in Canadian dollars

Canadian branding quotes run from a few hundred dollars to seventy five thousand and more. Here is what each budget buys in CAD, how GST, HST and Quebec language rules affect it and how to get a strong brand without overpaying.

In 2027 a small business brand identity in Canada typically costs about $2,500 to $10,000 CAD with an experienced freelancer or small studio, $10,000 to $35,000 with an established studio, and $30,000 to $75,000 or more when an agency includes full brand strategy. A logo on its own usually costs $300 to $3,500. The price depends on how much strategy is included, who does the work, whether you need English and French versions and what you own at the end.

I am Jakaria Mahmud, a brand identity designer and logo designer working remotely with founders and teams across Canada, from Toronto and Vancouver to Montreal and Calgary. I have worked with 80+ clients across 12 countries and hold a 5.0 rating on Google from 8 reviews. The prices below are typical market ranges, not quotes, so use them to set a budget and then ask for a fixed price.

Short answer. Budget about $300 to $3,500 CAD for a logo, $2,500 to $10,000 for a small business brand identity with an experienced freelancer or small studio, $10,000 to $35,000 with an established studio and $30,000 to $75,000+ for strategy plus identity from a larger agency. Check whether the quote includes GST or HST, plan French versions if you sell in Quebec, and add official trademark fees from the Canadian Intellectual Property Office (CIPO).

Branding prices in Canada by provider

Who does the work is the biggest single factor. Bark's Canadian price guide shows the gap clearly: junior designers average roughly $180 to $450, senior designers $500 to $1,650, small agencies $885 to $4,500 and top brand agencies $2,500 to $30,000 for brand design work. A full identity with strategy and guidelines sits above those averages.

ProviderTypical price (CAD)What you usually get
DIY tools and logo makers$0 to $500A template logo, no strategy and often no true ownership
Junior freelancer$300 to $1,500A logo and colours, little research, limited files
Senior freelancer or small studio$2,500 to $10,000Positioning, logo system, colours, type and guidelines
Established studio$10,000 to $35,000Research, strategy, full identity, guidelines and key templates
Larger agency$30,000 to $75,000+Workshops, naming, strategy, identity, rollout and a team

How much does a logo cost in Canada?

A logo alone usually costs $300 to $1,500 CAD with a junior freelancer and $1,500 to $3,500 with a senior designer or studio. Bark lists average brand designer prices of about $800 in Toronto, $725 in Calgary and $650 in Quebec City, which reflects simpler logo work. If you need the logo to work on a website, app icon, vehicles, packaging and signage, pay for a logo system with a primary logo, a compact version and an icon, not a single file. See how much a logo costs for a wider comparison.

What drives the cost of branding in Canada

  • Strategy. Positioning, audience research and messaging add time, but they are what make the brand sell.
  • English and French. National and Quebec brands need names, taglines and layouts that work in both languages.
  • Number of touchpoints. A website, deck, packaging, vehicles and signage each need design time.
  • City and seniority. Toronto and Vancouver studios charge more than smaller cities, and senior designers more than juniors.
  • Rounds of changes. Clear feedback and one decision maker keep the cost down.
  • Ownership. Some quotes keep the source files or limit usage rights. Full rights are worth paying for.

What a complete brand identity should include

  • A short positioning and messaging brief
  • Primary logo, compact logo and icon, in colour and one colour versions
  • Colour palette with codes for screen and print
  • Typography for headings and body text, with licences checked
  • Key applications such as website direction, social templates and a deck
  • Brand guidelines your team, printers and partners can follow
  • Source files and every final file, with full rights transferred to you

What to budget by business stage

StageSuggested budget (CAD)Focus
Pre launch or side business$1,000 to $3,500A clean logo, colours and one landing page
Small business or seed startup$3,500 to $12,000Positioning, full identity, guidelines and website
Growing company or Series A$12,000 to $40,000Research, rebrand, sales materials and rollout
National or bilingual brand$40,000+Strategy, naming, English and French systems, packaging and signage

Do Canadian branding prices include GST or HST?

Usually not. Canadian designers and agencies registered for sales tax add 5% GST, or HST of 13% to 15% depending on the province, and Quebec adds QST to GST. Always ask whether a quote is before or after tax. A designer based outside Canada usually does not add Canadian sales tax to the invoice, but ask your accountant how tax applies to services your business buys from abroad.

Quebec French rules and what they mean for your brand

If you sell in Quebec, plan for French from the start. Under Quebec's Charter of the French Language, as amended by Bill 96, new rules took effect on 1 June 2025: French must be markedly predominant on storefront signage, the trademark exception now applies only to registered trademarks, and generic or descriptive words in a registered trademark must be translated into French on the product or packaging. Fines for breaking the rules can reach tens of thousands of dollars. Ask your designer to build layouts and signage that work with French first, and check details with a Quebec lawyer.

Trademark costs with CIPO

A logo is only an asset if you can protect it. In Canada you register trademarks with the Canadian Intellectual Property Office (CIPO). Official filing fees apply for the first class of goods or services, with an extra fee for each additional class, and many businesses also pay a trademark agent for the search and filing. If you plan to sell in Quebec, registration also matters for the French language trademark exception. Budget for this before you print anything.

Costs most quotes leave out

  • French versions of the logo lockup, tagline and key templates
  • Font licences for your website, app and team
  • Stock photos or a photo shoot
  • Website build and copywriting
  • Printing, signage and vehicle wraps
  • Trademark search, filing and agent fees

Local studio or remote designer?

A local studio is a good fit when you want in person workshops or a large team. A senior remote designer often gives you the same quality for less, because there is no office overhead. Check three things: time zone overlap for live calls, written weekly updates and a fixed price in a currency you can plan around. Toronto mornings are my evening in Dhaka, so Canadian clients get feedback by their next morning, with calls booked early in their day.

How long branding takes in Canada

A logo and starter kit usually takes one to two weeks. A full brand identity with guidelines and website usually takes three to six weeks. A bilingual rebrand with packaging and signage can take two to four months. Feedback speed and the number of people who must approve the work matter more than the design time itself. See the brand identity design timeline for a week by week view.

The takeaway

Branding in Canada costs anywhere from a few hundred dollars for a logo to $75,000 or more for an agency strategy and rebrand. Most small businesses and startups get the best value in the $2,500 to $12,000 CAD range with a senior designer who includes positioning, guidelines and full file ownership. Plan for sales tax, French versions if you sell in Quebec and CIPO trademark fees, and always ask for a fixed price with a written scope.
