A brand consultant can cost around $100 an hour for a short advice session or $40,000 and more for a full brand strategy project. The price depends on where the consultant works, how senior they are, how they charge and what you actually need. This guide shows typical brand consultant rates for 2027 in the USA, UK, Canada, Australia, Switzerland, Norway and the Gulf, what each budget gets you, and how to hire one without wasting money.
I am Jakaria Mahmud, a brand consultant and brand identity designer. I have worked with 80+ clients across 12 countries, helped brands impact more than $1.4M in revenue and hold a 5.0 rating on Google from 8 reviews. The ranges below are typical market ranges built from public rate data and the quotes clients show me. They are not quotes, so use them to set a budget, then ask for a fixed price.
Short answer. In 2027 most independent brand consultants charge about $100 to $250 an hour in the USA, £450 to £1,000 a day in the UK and A$1,000 to A$2,000 a day in Australia. A brand audit usually costs $2,000 to $8,000, a full brand strategy $8,000 to $40,000 and an agency led strategy and rebrand $25,000 to $150,000 or more. Fixed price projects and monthly retainers are often better value than hourly billing, because you know the total before work starts.
What you are paying a brand consultant for
A brand consultant looks at your business from the outside, finds what holds your brand back and plans the fix. You are not paying for a logo. You are paying for clear thinking that changes how buyers see you and choose you. A good consultant leaves you with decisions, not only a slide deck.
- Brand audit. A review of your website, sales materials, reviews, competitors and how customers describe you.
- Positioning. One clear promise: who you serve, what you solve and why you are the better choice.
- Messaging. The words your team uses on the website, in decks and on sales calls.
- Rebrand decisions. Whether to refresh, rebrand or leave the brand alone, and what to change first.
- Ongoing advice. Reviews of new pages, campaigns and launches so the brand stays consistent.

How brand consultants charge
Brand consultants use five main pricing models. The model matters as much as the rate, because it decides who carries the risk when the work takes longer.
| Model | How it works | Best for |
|---|---|---|
| Hourly | You pay for every hour, usually billed monthly | Short advice calls and reviews |
| Day rate | A fixed price per working day, common in the UK and Europe | Workshops and focused sprints |
| Fixed project | One agreed price for a defined scope and set of deliverables | Audits, positioning and rebrands |
| Monthly retainer | A set monthly fee for ongoing strategy, design and reviews | Growing brands that launch often |
| Value based | Price tied to the business result the work is expected to create | Large companies with clear numbers |
For most startups and small businesses, a fixed project or a monthly retainer is the safest choice. You know the cost up front, and the consultant is paid for results, not hours.
Brand consultant rates by country in 2027
Rates follow local salaries and living costs, so the same work can cost very different amounts in New York, London, Zurich or Dubai. These are typical ranges for experienced independent consultants and for agencies.
| Market | Independent consultant | Full strategy project | Agency strategy and rebrand |
|---|---|---|---|
| USA | $100 to $250 an hour | $8,000 to $40,000 | $25,000 to $150,000+ |
| UK | £450 to £1,000 a day | £5,000 to £30,000 | £20,000 to £100,000+ |
| Canada | CA$100 to CA$225 an hour | CA$8,000 to CA$40,000 | CA$30,000 to CA$150,000+ |
| Australia | A$1,000 to A$2,000 a day | A$8,000 to A$45,000 | A$30,000 to A$150,000+ |
| Switzerland | CHF 1,200 to CHF 2,500 a day | CHF 10,000 to CHF 60,000 | CHF 40,000 to CHF 200,000+ |
| Norway | NOK 1,200 to NOK 2,200 an hour | NOK 80,000 to NOK 400,000 | NOK 300,000 to NOK 1.5M+ |
| UAE, Saudi Arabia and Qatar | AED 3,000 to AED 7,000 a day | AED 25,000 to AED 150,000 | AED 100,000 to AED 500,000+ |
Public data points in the same direction. PayScale puts the average US brand consultant at about $100 an hour in 2026, with most between $48 and $160. YunoJuno reports an average UK brand strategist day rate of about £494, and IT Jobs Watch shows a median UK brand management contract rate of about £413 a day. Senior consultants who lead strategy, not only deliver tasks, usually sit above these averages.
USA
The US has the widest range. A senior independent consultant in New York or San Francisco can charge $200 or more an hour, while a strong consultant in a smaller city may charge half that. US founders often buy brand strategy together with a pitch deck and website, so ask for one price that covers all three. See brand identity design cost in the USA for the design side.
UK
UK consultants usually quote day rates. London rates are higher than Manchester, Leeds or Bristol. Remember to check whether the price includes 20% VAT. The UK branding cost guide covers identity and logo prices in pounds.
Canada
Canadian rates sit a little below the US in Canadian dollars. Toronto and Vancouver cost more than the rest of the country. Bilingual English and French work in Quebec adds time for naming and messaging, so plan for it in the budget. See brand identity design for Canada and branding costs in Canada.
Australia
Australian consultants often quote day rates and add 10% GST. Sydney and Melbourne lead on price. Read branding cost in Australia for full identity prices in Australian dollars.
Switzerland and Norway
Both are among the most expensive markets in the world, so many Swiss and Norwegian companies hire senior consultants abroad and keep the same quality. Swiss work often needs German, French and English versions. Norwegian buyers value calm, honest brands, especially in energy, maritime and fintech. See the Switzerland and Norway pages.
UAE, Saudi Arabia and Qatar
Gulf projects often include bilingual Arabic and English names, logos and messaging, and they lean premium in real estate, hospitality and finance. That adds work, so a fair quote should say how Arabic versions are handled. Read the Dubai brand identity guide.
Brand consultant cost by service
Most people do not need everything at once. Buying the one service you need first is the easiest way to control cost.
| Service | Typical price | Typical time |
|---|---|---|
| Strategy call or brand review | $150 to $600 | 1 to 2 hours |
| Brand audit | $2,000 to $8,000 | 1 to 3 weeks |
| Positioning and messaging | $4,000 to $15,000 | 2 to 5 weeks |
| Full brand strategy | $8,000 to $40,000 | 4 to 10 weeks |
| Rebrand strategy and identity | $15,000 to $80,000+ | 2 to 5 months |
| Ongoing brand advisory | $1,500 to $10,000 a month | Monthly |

What drives the price up or down
- Seniority. A consultant who has led strategy for many brands costs more than one who mostly delivers tasks, and usually saves you time.
- Research. Customer interviews, surveys and competitor reviews add days, but they stop the strategy from being guesswork.
- Number of people involved. More founders, partners or board members means more workshops and more rounds of feedback.
- Languages and markets. Bilingual names and messaging for Canada, Switzerland or the Gulf take extra time.
- Design included or not. Strategy alone costs less, but you then need a designer to turn it into a logo, identity and website.
- Deadline. A rushed launch costs more because other work has to move.
Brand consultant vs agency vs strategist vs designer
| Option | Main focus | Typical cost |
|---|---|---|
| Brand consultant | Find the problem and plan the fix | $2,000 to $40,000 |
| Brand strategist | Positioning, audience and messaging | $4,000 to $30,000 |
| Brand identity designer | Logo, visual identity and guidelines | $1,500 to $25,000 |
| Branding agency | Strategy, identity and rollout with a team | $25,000 to $150,000+ |
The roles overlap. Many startups get the best value from one senior person who can do the strategy and the design, so nothing gets lost between two suppliers. Read what a brand strategist does to compare in detail.
How to hire a brand consultant in 6 steps
- Write down the problem. For example: "We get traffic but few demo calls" or "Buyers think we are cheaper than we are."
- Set a budget range. Use the tables above so you can say a number early.
- Look at real case studies. Ask for the brief, the thinking and the result, not only final images.
- Check reviews. Google, Clutch and LinkedIn recommendations from real clients are worth more than a polished website.
- Ask for a written scope. Deliverables, rounds of feedback, timeline and who owns the files.
- Start small. A paid audit or strategy call shows how the consultant thinks before you commit to a big project.
Questions to ask before you sign
- What exactly will I have at the end, and in what format?
- How will you learn about my customers: interviews, data or only workshops?
- Is design included, or will I need a separate designer?
- How many rounds of feedback are included?
- Do I own everything you create, including source files?
- How will we know the work is working after launch?
Red flags
- No case studies with real results or real client names.
- Only hourly billing with no estimate of the total.
- A strategy delivered as a long deck with no clear decisions.
- No plan for how the strategy turns into the website, sales deck and identity.
- Keeping the source files or rights after you have paid.
Is a remote brand consultant worth it?
Yes, if the work process is clear. Most brand consulting already happens on video calls, shared Figma files and written briefs. Hiring a senior consultant from another country often gives you the same quality for less than a local agency, especially in Switzerland, Norway, the UK and the Gulf. Check three things: time zone overlap for live calls, written weekly updates and a fixed price in a currency you can plan around.
I work from Dhaka with clients in the USA, UK, Europe, Australia and the Gulf. European and Gulf mornings overlap with my working day, and US clients get feedback by their next morning.

The takeaway
A brand consultant in 2027 costs anywhere from a few hundred dollars for a review to tens of thousands for a full strategy, depending on the country, seniority and scope. Start with the problem you want solved, set a budget from the ranges above, check real case studies and reviews, and ask for a fixed price with a written scope. The right consultant pays for themselves in clearer sales, better leads and higher prices.
