01

The problem

A meal prep brand that feels like home, not a diet plan.

Sami Cooks prepares fresh, ready meals with the promise "100% made from scratch. 100% of the time." and the line "A whole new way to mealprep".

The brand had to feel warm and full of personality while staying clear on containers, bags and small social posts.

Sami Cooks circular badge pattern on orange with "100% made from scratch. 100% of the time."
Sami Cooks "Eat love repeat" headline and a branded oven mitt
Sami Cooks applications: quesadilla box, SA MI pattern, bags and a meal box on purple and yellow
Sami Cooks line "Eat, Love, Repeat." in mint green on black
02

The solution

A stacked wordmark, bold type and vibrant colour.

The SA MI COOKS wordmark stacks the name into a compact block, framed by a circular "A whole new way to mealprep" badge.

Montserrat is the primary typeface and Manrope the secondary one. Orange, mint green, deep purple, yellow and black keep every touchpoint bright, and the logo family flexes across five attributes: home, power, love, strength and fresh.

Sami Cooks typography: Montserrat primary and Manrope secondary typeface
Sami Cooks brand attributes: one logo family for home, power, love, strength and fresh
Sami Cooks "Thank, fam." thank you cards in orange, yellow, mint and purple
Sami Cooks black shopping bags with "Eat love repeat" and the orange badge
03

The result

One identity, from the meal box to the loyalty card.

Applications include branded meal containers, "Eat, love, repeat" shopping bags, "Thank, fam." thank you cards, meal plans for 5, 10 or 15 meals, a weekly menu called "This week's good stuff" and "The Samicooks Club" loyalty card.

The system brings together bold typography, vibrant colour and an easy going attitude: one familiar mark with plenty of personality.

Sami Cooks meal plan post "Your week. Sorted." with 5, 10 and 15 meal options
Sami Cooks weekly menu "This week's good stuff": jerk chicken, lemon salmon, veggie burrito, BBQ jackfruit
Sami Cooks "The Samicooks Club" loyalty card: "Good food. Great rewards."

Restaurant and food branding: what this project shows

Lessons for restaurants, food brands and hospitality businesses.

Sami Cooks is a meal prep and food delivery project by Jakaria Mahmud, a senior brand identity designer working with clients in the USA, UK, Europe and Australia. The work covered logo family, colour, typography, brand attributes, packaging.

Food brands live on menus, bags, cups, boxes, signs and phones. The identity has to make people hungry at a glance, stay readable on small packaging and feel the same in the street, at the table and in a delivery bag.

What other restaurant and food brands can take from it:

  • A logo that works on cups, bags, boxes and signage
  • Colour and type that stand out on a menu and a crowded social feed
  • Packaging, loyalty and print that keep every order on brand

Read the guide to choosing brand colours, see the packaging design service, or how I work with clients in the USA, UK, Australia and Norway.
