The problem

A restaurant about sharing needs a brand that feels warm and calm.

CLOGA is a restaurant and wine bar with one idea: food is meant to be shared. Guests can order large plates, snacks and tapas at the bar, or a few plates to try together.

The kitchen works with fish, rare seafood from the Mediterranean sea, meat and spices, so the brand had to feel relaxed and refined at the same time.

CLOGA editorial layout: headline, body type and the face and fish logo on sage green
CLOGA line illustrations of a wine glass, fish, hand and bread with "When, it's all about sharing"
CLOGA bar with shelves of bottles and round pendant lights
02

The solution

A clean wordmark, a hand drawn symbol and soft sage green.

The CLOGA wordmark is set in clean, wide capitals with the line "Restaurant & wine bar". A single line drawing of a face next to a fish acts as the symbol.

Line illustrations of a wine glass, a fish, a hand and bread carry the idea "When, it's all about sharing", on a palette of sage green, deep green, black and white.

CLOGA business cards on a dining table and a green menu cover
CLOGA event posters: winter menu, "surf&turf" and "NYE hangover party"
CLOGA "Take out and share" packaging: kraft bags, labels and stickers
CLOGA embroidered aprons: a striped chef apron and a teal apron with the line drawn symbol
CLOGA front door at night and the door sign with opening hours
03

The result

One identity, from the menu to the front door.

Applications include menus, business cards, event posters such as "surf&turf" and "NYE hangover party", a 200 PLN gift card, "Take out and share" packaging, aprons, door signage with opening hours and the illuminated storefront sign.

Lines such as "Made to share", "Give a little time together" and "Save your seat" keep the voice warm and simple.

Restaurant and food branding: what this project shows

Lessons for restaurants, food brands and hospitality businesses.

CLOGA is a restaurant, wine bar and hospitality project by Jakaria Mahmud, a senior brand identity designer working with clients in the USA, UK, Europe and Australia. The work covered logo, symbol, line illustrations, colour, typography, editorial voice.

Food brands live on menus, bags, cups, boxes, signs and phones. The identity has to make people hungry at a glance, stay readable on small packaging and feel the same in the street, at the table and in a delivery bag.

What other restaurant and food brands can take from it:

  • A logo that works on cups, bags, boxes and signage
  • Colour and type that stand out on a menu and a crowded social feed
  • Packaging, loyalty and print that keep every order on brand

Read the guide to choosing brand colours, see the packaging design service, or how I work with clients in the USA, UK, Australia and Norway.
